गुप्त मतदान का अभिप्राय मतदान की उस विधि से होता है जो यह सुनिश्चित करती है कि सभी मत गुप्त रूप से डाले जाएँ, ताकि मतदाता किसी अन्य व्यक्ति से प्रभावित न हो और मतदान के समय किसी को भी यह ज्ञात न हो कि विशिष्ट मतदाता ने किसे वोट दिया है । ताकि मतदाता स्वेच्छा बिना किसी दबाव के मतदान कर सकें । दूसरे शब्दों में कहे तो मतदाता गोपनीयता से अपनी पसंद का प्रतिनिधि चुन सकें

1939 Hungary Secret ballot system was already applied at the 1920 elections, but in 1922 the government reinstated open voting in the countryside.
