मधुर जाफरी (जन्म: 13 अगस्त 1933) एक भारतीय अभिनेत्री, खाद्य और यात्रा लेखिका, और टेलीविजन व्यक्तित्व हैं।[1][2] वह अपनी पहली रसोई की किताब, "एन इनविटेशन टू इंडियन कुकिंग" (1973) के साथ भारतीय व्यंजनों को अमेरिका में लाने के लिए पहचानी जाती हैं, जिसे 2006 में जेम्स बियर्ड फाउंडेशन के कुकबुक हॉल ऑफ फेम में शामिल किया गया था।[3][4][5] उन्होंने एक दर्जन से अधिक रसोई की किताब लिखी हैं और कई संबंधित टेलीविजन कार्यक्रमों में दिखाई दी हैं, जिनमें से सबसे उल्लेखनीय मधुर जाफरी की इंडियन कुकरी है, जिसका 1982 में यूके में प्रीमियर हुआ था।[6]

उन्होंने फिल्म निर्माताओं जेम्स आइवरी और इस्माइल मर्चेंट को एक साथ लाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई[7][8] और शेक्सपियर वालेह (1965) जैसी कई फिल्मों में अभिनय किया, जिसके लिए उन्होंने 15 वें बर्लिन फिल्म फेस्टिवल समारोह में सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री का रजत भालू जीता।[9] वह रेडियो, मंच और टेलीविजन पर नाटकों में भी दिखाई दीं।[10]

2004 में उन्हें यूनाइटेड किंगडम, भारत और संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के बीच सांस्कृतिक संबंधों के लिए उनकी सेवाओं के सम्मान में ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य के एक मानद कमांडर ऑफ द ऑर्डर के रूप में नामित किया गया था।[11][12]

प्रारंभिक जीवन

जाफरी का जन्म सिविल लाइंस, दिल्ली में एक कायस्थ हिंदू संयुक्त परिवार में हुआ था।[13][14] वह लाला राज बंस बहादुर (1899-1974) और उनकी पत्नी, कश्मीरी रानी (1903-1971) के छह बच्चों में से पाँचवें हैं।[15][16] उसने मिरांडा हाउस के एक महिला कॉलेज में अंग्रेजी में स्नातक की पढ़ाई पूरी की।
