विकिपीडिया:Article wizard/Redirect
Redirects are used to point one article to another, effectively giving a single article several names. Reasons to use a redirect include:
- Common abbreviations (DSM-IV redirects to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)
- Common misspellings (Condoleeza Rice redirects to Condoleezza Rice)
- Alternate spellings (Al-Jazeera redirects to Al Jazeera)
- Alternate capitalizations (Mcdonald's redirects to McDonald's) (Note: when searching, the case is usually ignored. These redirects are useful when two articles share the same name but with different cases, for example the separate articles CAVA and cava.)
- Alternate names (Linear operator redirects to Linear map)
- Accents (Kurt Goedel and Kurt Godel redirect to Kurt Gödel)
When you click the button below, you'll be taken to an edit page with instructions on how to complete your request.
What happens next: Once your request is submitted, it will be reviewed by one or more registered editors who will determine if the redirect is appropriate. If it is, the redirect will be created. If not, it will be declined.
If your suggestion is declined: Don't take it personally! Having a proposal declined by no means reflects poorly on you or diminish your value to the project. We hope that you will continue to contribute to Wikipedia.
