1 जनवरी 1927 को आम्बेडकर ने द्वितीय आंग्ल-मराठा युद्ध, की [[कोरेगाँव की लड़ाई]] के दौरान मारे गये भारतीय [[महार]] सैनिकों के सम्मान में कोरेगाँव विजय स्मारक (जयस्तंभ) में एक समारोह आयोजित किया। यहाँ महार समुदाय से संबंधित सैनिकों के नाम संगमरमर के एक शिलालेख पर खुदवाये गये हैं।
