अभियंता वह व्यक्ति है जिसे [[अभियाँत्रिकी]] की एक या एक से अधिक शाखाओं मे प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त हो अथवा जो कि व्यावसायिक रूप से [[अभियाँत्रिकी]] सम्बन्धित कार्य कर रहा हो । कभी कभी इन्हे यंत्रवेत्ता भी कहा जाता है | यद्यपि अभियंता एक शुद्ध हिन्दी शब्द है लेकिन बोलचाल की भाषा मे इसके स्थान पर अंग्रेजी भाषा के इंजीनियर (Engineer) शब्द का प्रयोग अधिक होता
