कूमीस (किरगिज़: Кымыз, अंग्रेज़ी: Kumis) घोड़ी के दूध को किण्वित (फ़रमॅन्ट) करके बनाए जाने वाले मध्य एशिया के स्तेपी क्षेत्र के एक पारम्परिक पेय को कहते हैं। किण्वन की वजह से घोड़ी के दूध में प्राकृतिक रूप से मौजूद लैक्टोस चीनी की कुछ मात्रा शराब में बदल जाती है और इस प्रक्रिया में कुछ कार्बन डाई-ऑक्साइड बनने से दूध में गैस के बुदबुदे भी बन जाते हैं। कूमीस को मंगोलिया में ऐरग (airag) कहा जाता है। अन्य शराबों की तुलना में कूमीस कम नशीली होती है और इसमें केवल २% शराब होती है।[1] कूमीस तुर्की-मोंगोल लोगों की संस्कृति में एक अहम पेय है और स्तेपी में यह दूध को ख़राब होने से बचाने के एक महत्वपूर्ण तरीका हुआ करता था।[2][3]
