Bhilai is known for the massive Bhilai Steel Plant, one of the largest integrated steel plants in the whole world, around which the entire economy of the town revolves. Bhilai is the second largest city in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, whose capital is Raipur. Raipur city is located on the Howrah-Mumbai rail line. The National Highway (NH) 6 of India also runs through Bhilai which is situated 22 kms west of Raipur.
Bhilai is surrounded by mines and factories. Bhilai is a Multi-linguistic and Multi-religious city known for its “Unity in Diversity” and for its culture since its in eption.Durga Pooja, the festival for Durga is celebrated in Bhilai with the same great passion as it is celebrated in Bengal, the state known for celebrating Durga Pooja. Similarly, other festivals like, Ganesh Chaturthi of Maharashtra, Ugadi of Andhra Pradesh, Pongal of Tamil Nadu are also celebrated in Bhilai.
One of the attractive tourist spots at Bhilai is the Maitri Bagh Zoo. Here, white tigers are the main attraction, along with a toy train. Around the zoo there are plants and trees which are maintained well.
