HOT WATER SPRING: NATURL scenes are in abundance in the whole Manikaran region. Every person gets amazed at finding snowy water in river Parvati at one hand while boiling hot water springs on the other. Even an atheist turns a theist while witnessing this chrismatic play of all pervasive power and bows with all good- will before God. One gets a complete satisfaction and extraordinary mental and spiritual peace after worshiping in temples and visiting this place. Even before 1905, these hot water springs sprang with full force making a fountain of 11 to14 feet high and there came out coloured and precious stones sometimes. The temperature of different springs at Manikaran is about 88°c to 94°c. No definite cause of this warmth has yet been found out bythe Scientist. There is no sulphur in hot springs. Food such as rice, dal etc. cooked in the these springs in more delicious to eat. Food takes the same time in cooing as it takes while Cookes on fire. Bathing in the “Kundas” (bathrooms at this place) is a great balmand sure shot cure fore arthritics and its allied problems. The height of Manikaran is 2000 mt. (5650feet) from sea level. It snoes here in the winters. The climate is amazingly pleasant in summer. This place in colder comparatively.
Shrine Manikaran: According to the details in Brahma legend, there reached Aashutosh Bhagwan Shankar alongeith Parvati once while on a short visit to this enchanting place. Fascinated by the charming beauty of this place. Bhagwan Shankr and Mata Parvati vowed to line and practiced meditation here for 11000 years. Once while playing in water, one jewel of Parvat’s earing fell down in water and got lost in some other world. Bhagwan Shankar ordered his angels ‘Gana’ messenger to look far the lost “Mani” (jewel) of Parvati. Even after a long search when mani was not found anywhere, Bhagwan Shankar lost his temper and opened his third eye. All the earth and its creation trembled and gods were frightened Naina Bhawati from the third eye of Shankar proclaimed about the jewel (the lost mani) of Parvati to Patadhipati and ‘Sheshnag’, the lord of all the jewels. Sheshnag spurted forth a forceful and powerful breath, due to this there sprang forth a hot water fountain from earth in this place There came out many jewels along with the lost jewel of Parvati’s carrying out of this God made or natural fountain. Parvati took her own Mani (jewel) while she curesd the other jewels to take the shape of stones. Thus, the anger of Bhagwan Shankar was pacified. This is the reason why this place is called Manikaran. This shrine is said to be ‘half woman area’ in legends only for being the meditation place of Bhagwan Shankar and Parvati Ji. This holy place become so dear to Shankar Ji that he even named his place “Kashi” “Manikaran Ka Ghat”.
 
In Mahabharata Era Bhagwan Shankar disguised himself as Bhil just to test Arjuna and see the Pahupatra work as was given to Arjuna by Devraj Inder and urged Arjuna to wage a war and then blessed him in this particular place. By eating the food cooked in hot springs and bathing in the kunda makes one’s life disease free and all sins are removed, this religious place is the source of many divine virtues. All wishes of mankind are satisfied and Moksha Nirvana is achieved after a visit to this holy pilgrimage.
The Arrival of Bhagwan Shri Ram Chander Ji at Maniaran: - Bhagwan Shankar and Ram Chander ji have been worshippers of each other in many lives. The details about this legend Ara found at many places in Aadi Epic in Ramayana and many other epice. Bhagwan Ramchander frequently visited Manikaran just to worship Lord Shankar there. Other then this, there is also a place of Gurru Vashisht, The lord of Bhagwana Rama named Vashisht near Manali in this region where Rama chander often visited to seek his lord’s blessings.
 
There was a region of the king Jagat Singh in the 16th Century in Kullu. Once upon a time, King Jagat Singh was falsely complained against a Brahmin of Tipri village at a distance of 2.5Kms. From manikaran that he had jewels in abundance in abundane in his custody and those jewels should only be with the King. King often visited Manikaran. Once on his way to Manikaran, he called and ordered the Brahmin to handover the precious- jewels that he owned. The poor Brahmin had no jewels He turned no stone unturned (made strenuous efforts) to make the King believe but the king was adamant. The King warned the Brahmin by saying that he’ll return from Manikaran afrer three days so he should keep the jewels at hand. When on his return in the village the King demanded the jewels from Brahmin. Because of fear and trepidation, the poor Brahmin along with his family bolted the house from inside and set the house fire. Thus he ended his life and this filled the King with repentance. For being a killer of a Brahmin the king immediately suffered from leprosy and could see nothing but blood in after and insects in food. The condition of the King deteriorated day by day and no medicine worked. At least, the king went to one Mahatma named Keshav Dass Phulari, who was a die hard devotee of Trikaal’. He asked the king to renounce all the wordily desires and install the original “Idol (Murti) of rama by demanding it from Ayodhyaya. King gave up all his comforts and luxuries and became the true devotee of Bahgwan Rama Chandra. Thus, King Jagat Singh spends the last 26 Years of his life at this temple. The place and scarified his body also. King’s Statue made of stone is also installed here in the Hanuman temple. The Celebration of the world famous Kullu Dusshera Festival started from Manikaran itself especially during the regime/ region of King jagat Singh ji The successors of the King still continue worshiping and severing Lord Ramma in the same age-old tradition.
A Shrine: The God and Goddesses from every nook and comer of Kullu region and Himachal come to seek blessings of the Lord and go back with an inspiration and a feedback to serve the mankind at large. There are also situated the temples of Matta Bhagwati and Rama Ji in a village at Manikaran.
Temple Administration: Temple administrative staff wad deputed by the Kings to run the temple affairs smoothly and effectively and the administration was handed over to the local bodies/ families and trustees. All the ways and all the says and means of temple money came end with the reforms in land laws after the Independence of India. A Temple committee was constituted in June 1981. At present, this temple committee, with the co-operation of donors, is looking after the temples and catering to the needs of devotees for their food shelter, bathrooms, toilets etc.
Way to Manikaran: Approach Air and Roadways: The road to Manikaran leads from Bhuntar town which is to 10 Kms from Kullu. Manikaran is only 35 Km s from Bhuntar. Once can reach Kullu-Bhunter via Air from Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla, and after that one can go by road in a us or taxi. Buses and taxis ate easily available for Kullu Manali from Delhi, Chandigarh and all famous cities of India. There is also a direct bus services from Jallandahr, Patiala, Hosiarpur, Dehardun, Amritsar and Chandigarh to Manikaran. There are also other worth – visiting holy pleas like Kheer Ganga , Mantalai, Pandav Gufa, and Rudranag next to Manikara.
