इस परिवार के कुछ सदस्य आर्थिक लाभ के हैं, जैसे लैक्ट्यूका सैटाइवा (Lactuka Sativa), चिकरी (सिकोरियम, cichorium), हाथी चोक (आर्टिचोक, Artichoke)। बहुत से सदस्य अपने सुंदर फूल के कारण उद्यान में उगाए जाते हैं, जैसे ज़िन्निआ, सूरजमुखी, गेंदा, डालिया इत्यादि। कुछ औषधि के भी काम में आते हैं। आरटीमिज़िया वल्गेरिस (Artimisia vulgaris) से 'सैंटोनिन' दवा बनती है। पाईथ्रोम से कीट मारने का चूर्ण बनाया जाता है। यह पुष्प प्रसिद्ध गुलदाउदी (क्राइसैंथिमम, Chrysanthemum) की प्रजाति का है। पार्थेनियम की एक जाति से एक प्रकार का [[रबर]] होता है।
