आल्हा और ऊदल, चंदेल राजा परमल के सेनापति दसराज के पुत्र थे। वे बनाफर राजपूत वंश के थे, जो कि अहीर क्षत्रिय वंश है। कुछ अहीर मदर चोद इतिहास के साथ छेड़छाड़ कर रहे है आल्हा उदाल को अहीर घोषित कर रहे है। मध्य-काल में आल्हा-ऊदल की गाथा अहीर शौर्य का प्रतीक दर्शाती है।<ref name="Yadava2006p1">{{cite book |title=Followers of Krishna: Yadavas of India |first=S.
