Abhyuday is a student-run organization dedicated to fostering leadership and creating a positive social impact. Abhyuday is the esteemed social body of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Its core philosophy revolves around cultivating a socially conscious environment and empowering youth to address India's challenges, thus nurturing a nationwide movement of change-makers.

Abhyuday, IIT Bombay, firmly believes in encouraging student participation in activities focused on social development and fostering a spirit of initiative. It provides a platform for students to learn, interact, and act, promoting a culture of engagement with pressing social issues.

With a network of chapters in colleges across the nation, Abhyuday has grown to become India's largest youth movement for social change. Its reach spans from the northern to the southern tip of the country, inspiring and mobilizing young individuals to make a tangible difference in their communities.

1. In 2014, a group of socially inclined students felt the need for a body that could provide opportunities to the students of the institute who wished to work for a better society. They started the 'Social Fest', a two-day extravaganza held every January to celebrate the spirit of social good.

 2. In 2016, Abhyuday hosted Aamir Khan for the screening of Satyamev Jayate during their first edition of the 'Social Fest'. They also launched the College Representative (CR) program, which aimed to connect socially inclined students from all over the nation. This program has reached over 50,000 students, 50+ NGOs, and 600+ national colleges.

 3. In 2018, Sandesh to Soldiers was conducted for the first time on Independence Day. This event involved sending messages or care packages to soldiers as a gesture of gratitude.

 4. In 2019, Abhyuday started the Powai Lake Cleanup, one of their biggest campaigns, which takes place on World Environment Day. Students from IITB and other volunteers from the Powai area gather to clean the outside of Powai Lake. They also organized the first 'Concert for A Cause', which later became a part of the legacy of the Social Fest. Additionally, a Video Teleconferencing (VTC) session reached out to 72,000+ students as a part of the CCC (possibly Community Connect Campaign).

 5. Apart from all other ongoing events from the start , During the pandemic, Abhyuday continued conducting online campaigns and events. One such event focused on mental health.

 6. In 2020, Abhyuday hosted Dia Mirza, an actor and activist, as a speaker for 'Girls safety' in their 'The Changemaker Series'. They also collaborated with UNICEF, India for the event 'Rising above Corona: A crusade against the stigma'.

 7. In 2021, Abhyuday launched Socio-X, a series honoring COVID warriors. They also conducted a Climate Change Campaign to tackle the issue of climate change. Additionally, they hosted Dr. Kiran Bedi, the first female IPS officer, social activist, and author, as a guest speaker during the orientation.

Powai Lake Clean Up

Powai Lake Cleanup Drive takes place every year on the occasion of World Environment Day. Students, faculty, staff from IIT Bombay, and local residents participate enthusiastically. This year, approximately 400++ volunteers contributed to the cleanup effort. The 2 km perimeter of the lake was thoroughly cleaned, resulting in the collection of approximately 3 tonnes of trash. The campaign aims to promote a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment by emphasizing the importance of keeping our surroundings free of plastic. Even small efforts can have a significant impact. The drive is conducted in collaboration with UNICEF India and Project Mumbai, with a focus on waste recycling.

Versova Beach CleanUp

Abhyuday IIT Bombay, in collaboration with Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, a dedicated group of volunteers actively participates in the 'World's Largest Beach Cleanup Campaign' held at Versova Beach . Our association with this esteemed campaign spans over one and a half years, and we are honored to work under the guidance of UN Environment Champion of the Earth 2016, Afroz Shah.

Menstrual Hygiene Campaign

"No more silence, no more shame."

Approximately 500 million individuals worldwide lack access to menstrual products and adequate hygiene facilities. In response to this pressing issue, Abhyuday embarked on a comprehensive campaign targeting over 2500 underprivileged girls across 50+ slum communities. Our primary objective was to foster open dialogue and normalize conversations surrounding menstruation, thereby prioritizing women's health and well-being.

Family Planning Campaign

This initiative aims to promote informed decision making and optimal well being by enhancing awareness of family planning. Furthermore, we provide complimentary health checkups, ensuring accessibility to comprehensive healthcare services. Our team distributed condoms and informative brochures in both English and Marathi to over 7,500 slum residents in Mumbai. Collectively, we pave the way for brighter futures, safeguarding every family's right to a healthy and empowered tomorrow.

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence."

The Career Counselling Campaign provides free career guidance to underprivileged students, it was started in 2016. The objective of this campaign is to bring awareness about careers and the importance of guidance among school students. The Abhyuday team engages with students through sessions conducted in various Mumbai schools. These sessions, lasting approximately 1-2 hours, provide insights into diverse industries, job roles, educational pathways, and the requisite skills and qualifications for various careers. Over 5000 students across 50+ schools have benefited from these sessions this time

Space Tech Awareness Campaign

In collaboration with the IIT Bombay Mars Rover Team, , team Abhyuday held educational outreach sessions at Pantnagar Municipal School-3 and Holy Cross School. These sessions aimed to inspire students by introducing them to topics such as the work of NASA and ISRO, as well as the operations of shuttles and satellites. By doing so, we sought to cultivate an awareness of cosmic phenomena among the future leaders of our society.

Educational Kits Distribution

In collaboration with the Pranyas Foundation, Team Abhyuday conducted a campaign to distribute over 500++ educational kits to underprivileged school students, with a focus on the children of our employees. This initiative aims to provide essential learning materials, thereby positively impacting their educational journey.

Masti Ki Pathshala

The "Masti Ki Paathshala" program aims to impart fundamental scientific knowledge to children in an engaging and innovative manner through enjoyable experiments and toy-making sessions. This unique classroom-game room environment fosters the creativity of young minds, enabling them to construct their own worlds where the wonders of science are revealed, transforming learning into an enjoyable and exciting experience.

Food distribution Campaign

Abhyuday in collaboration with Robin Hood Army helps connect young volunteers towards the problem of hunger in our society. The best feeling of happiness is when you have made someone else happy!! . Through its food drive initiatives, RHA and Abhyuday have been able to make a small but meaningful impact in fighting hunger and food waste, while also promoting the values of community service and empathy among people.

Abhyuday IIT Bombay organizes a wide range of events and workshops,  to promote social awareness. It also offers a flagship fellowship program, empowering youth to make a tangible difference in the social sector. With a commitment to social welfare, Events at Abhyuday create an impactful experience for young individuals, fostering their personal and professional growth while making a lasting impact on society.

PROFECTUS

Profectus is a distinguished fellowship program by Abhyuday, enabling IIT Bombay students to engage in the social sector and create positive change. It offers paid internships in various fields, fostering personal and professional growth. Students collaborate with organizations, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to meaningful projects, making a tangible impact. Profectus empowers the next generation, fostering social responsibility and addressing pressing societal issues. Around 400+ internships across 100+ NGOs, social startups in 60+ different profiles with a stipend pool of more than INR 20 Lakh were provided in 2023.

TEDx IIT Bombay

TEDx IIT Bombay, an inspiring platform curated by Abhyuday, brought together innovative ideas, diverse perspectives, and transformative stories aimed at sparking meaningful conversations and driving positive change. With captivating talks covering a spectrum of topics, the event attracted over 3,000 attendees, leaving a lasting impact on the IIT Bombay community and beyond.

BLOOD DONATION DRIVE

Abhyuday, in collaboration with Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti and KEM Hospital, organizes Blood Donation Drive at IIT Bombay twice a year . The drive happens to be a remarkable success every time , with the potential to save  1000+ lives with the blood collected in each drive. This initiative showcases the power of collective generosity and compassion, reflecting the spirit of empathy within the IIT Bombay community. The collaborative efforts brought together individuals committed to making a positive difference and extending a lifeline to those in need. The event fosters a culture of empathy, compassion, and community engagement, leaving a lasting impact on society.

Podcast Series "Voices of Compassion"

"Voices of Compassion" podcast series is a new initiative that was started in 2023, Team Abhyuday aims to raise awareness about pressing social issues and inspire positive action. Covering topics such as Mental Health, Musical Heritage, Social Media & Relationships, and Navigating Life’s Challenges, the series sparks meaningful conversations and fosters empathy among listeners. By leveraging platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music, this initiative amplifies the reach and impact of crucial discussions on societal issues.

SANDESH TO SOLDIERS

"Sandesh to Soldiers" is an annual initiative by Abhyuday IIT Bombay to express gratitude to soldiers and frontline heroes. Each Independence Day, we all stand together to present our gratitude to soldiers and people whose efforts made us see this day.  Residents of IIT Bombay write letters to salute the soldiers and all the frontline heroes who sacrifice their lives to protect us and to appreciate the efforts made by them in these difficult times.Through heartfelt letters, the event honors their sacrifices and unwavering commitment. This initiative fosters unity, patriotism, and appreciation for their service.

Abhyuday IIT Bombay organizes a social festival every year which inculcates various impactful events, exhibitions, lectures, workshops and competitions to instill a sense of responsibility in the youth towards the society and to create awareness about basic human rights. The ‘Social Fest’ usually held in January is a two day extravaganza that celebrates the spirit of social good.The fest aims at sensitizing the youth to the pressing issues in the society at a large scale and along with self-awareness, solutions are presented. The fest encompasses a wide spectrum of events dealing with burning social issues such as Women empowerment, LGBTQ issues, Climate change, Youth empowerment etc

The competitions at​ Abhyuday, IIT Bombay​ are a platform to provide a sustainable solution model to the ​social problems ​by engaging with the community and stakeholders.​ Aimed at encouraging youth towards solving social issues with their innovativeness, competitions has ​covered about​ 25+ states ​and ​50+ cities ​with the participation of​ 1000+ teams ​including over ​2500 students ​& professionals from around​ 1500 colleges ​across the nation till now​.

Action Plan

The Action Plan stands as the beacon of Abhyuday's ethos since its inception in 2012. This social entrepreneurship competition, rooted in the 3-I's mantra – Ideate, Innovate, Implement – serves as a crucible for the brightest minds from colleges and the corporate world. It's mission is to foster a platform where the synergy of youthful ingenuity and seasoned experience catalyzes solutions that address grassroots-level challenges. Spanning multiple rounds, from registration and playbook submission to mentorship and final pitching. The Action Plan nurtures teams to develop comprehensive skills necessary for social entrepreneurship. With over 1000 teams registering and addressing problem statements across six sectors, professional mentorship for over 100 teams, and opportunities for 20+ teams to pitch their ideas to a distinguished panel, the Action Plan fuels a culture of innovation and impact.

Socio-Hackathon

The Socio-Hackathon endeavors to demystify Blockchain technology and its potential to revolutionize both lives and businesses on a massive scale. By offering substantial prize money and coveted internship opportunities, the competition incentivizes participants to showcase their skills and insights into leveraging blockchain for societal good. With over 1000 ++ registrations nationwide, the Socio-Hackathon underscores the growing interest and engagement in harnessing technology for social impact.

Case Study

The Case Study competition serves as a crucible for intellect and innovation, inviting participants to tackle real-world challenges with creativity and analytical prowess. By stimulating innovative problem-solving skills, this competition aims to drive actionable social change and empower participants to make a tangible impact on society.

Mock Parliament

Mock Parliament, a platform for national inter-college debate, cultivates critical thinking and public awareness on pressing social issues. By engaging youth in debates and discussions, this initiative aims to elevate awareness of political processes and societal challenges, empowering participants to articulate their perspectives and contribute meaningfully to the public discourse.

The Union Budget

Through the Union Budget simulation, students step into the shoes of legislators to construct and defend their country’s fiscal policies. By immersing participants in the intricacies of budget allocation and socio-economic analysis, this competition aims to foster a deeper understanding of governance and inspire proactive engagement in addressing pressing social issues.

PIL Drafting Competition

Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Drafting Competition serves as a rallying point for vigilant citizens to pursue legal remedies for pressing societal issues . With participation exceeding 100 teams and 200 students nationwide, this competition cultivates a profound comprehension of legal frameworks and inspires active involvement in shaping laws and policies for the betterment of society. It is a nationwide competition driven by the objective of fostering student engagement in laws and policies pertaining to social issues. It offers a fair and competitive platform for the exchange of ideas, aiming to enhance participants' knowledge and empower them to effect positive societal change through direct involvement in the legal system and advocacy.

Social Policy Formulation

Social Policy Formulation is a budget allocation and policy formulation competition that aims at involving the youth into the comprehensive and complex decision making process of various legislatures around the globe. It provides bright minds the platform to come up with feasible and optimistic policy solutions to tackle social issues that bring about grass root level changes. It gives an opportunity to bring about a positive and transformative change in the old-ridden legislative policies.
