नीरज कुमार सिंह

नाइक नीरज कुमार सिंह, एसी भारतीय सेना में एक सैैैनिक थे, जिन्हें 26 जनवरी 2015 को मरणोपरांत अशोक चक्र, देश के सर्वोच्च शांतिकालीन सैन्य अलंकरणसे सम्मानित किया गया था वह 13वीं बटालियन, राजपुताना राइफल्स में भर्ती हुए थे और 57वीं बटालियन राष्ट्रीय राइफल्स में सेवा कर रहे थे, जब वे कार्रवाई में शहीद हुए थे।

24 अगस्त, 2014 को जम्मू-कश्मीर के कुपवाड़ा में एक तलाशी अभियान का नेतृत्व करते हुए सेना के जवान पर आतंकवादियों की भारी गोलीबारी हुई। उन्होंने सेना के एक घायल व्यक्ति को बचाया और दो आतंकवादी को मार गिराया।

प्रारंभिक जीवन

नायक नीरज कुमार सिंह उत्तर प्रदेश के बुलंदशहर जिले के देवराला गांव के रहने वाले थे। वह श्री ओमवीर सिंह और श्रीमती राजेश देवी के पुत्र थे। उनके पिता एक किसान थे। उनके तीन और भाई-बहन थे।

सैन्य वृत्ति

नीरज कुमार सिंह भारतीय सेना में राजपूताना राइफल्स की 13वीं बटालियन में शामिल हुए थे। उन्हें अपनी रेजिमेंट में सेवा देने के बाद आतंकवाद विरोधी अभियानों के लिए राष्ट्रीय राइफल्स की 57 बटालियन में सेवा देने के लिए प्रतिनियुक्त किया गया था। उनकी बहादुरी, साहस और आत्म बलिदान के लिए उन्हें मरणोपरांत भारत के सर्वोच्च शांतिकालीन वीरता पुरस्कार अशोक चक्र से सम्मानित किया गया।

अशोक चक्र पुरस्कार विजेता

नीरज कुमार सिंह की पत्नी ने 26 जनवरी 2015 को राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी से अशोक चक्र प्राप्त किया।

He was awarded India's Highest Peacetime Gallantry Award- Ashoka Chakra on 26 January 2015, Republic Day. His award citation reads:

Based on specific intelligence, Brigade Ghataks launched a Search and Destroy Operation at General area Gurdaji of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on 24 August 2014. At 1025 hours, party noticed movement of few terrorists close to a Dhok, who opened indiscriminate fire on own troops. In the ensuring fire fight, a friend of Naik Neeraj was hit on bullet proof jacket. With utter disregard for his personal safety, Naik Neeraj crawled and extricated his friend. A terrorist threw grenades and brought heavy fire on Naik Neeraj. In a daring act, he inched closer to the terrorist and shot him dead. Simultaneously, the NCO was attacked by another terrorist resulting in dropping of his Rifle and the terrorist shot him in the chest. Despite grievous injuries, displaying unparalleled courage, he pounced on the terrorist, snatched his weapon and killed him in hand-to-hand combat. He refused to be evacuated till he became unconscious and was evacuated by helicopter to 92 Base Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

व्यक्तिगत जीवन

वह अपने सैन्य जीवन से प्यार करते थे। उन्होंने तो यहाँ तक चाहा कि उनके दोनों बेटे कुणाल और लव भी फौजी अफसर बन सकें। नाइक नीरज कुमार के परिवार में उनके माता-पिता, पत्नी परमेश्वरी और दो बेटे कुणाल राघव और लव प्रताप राघव हैं।
