रावल राजस्थानऔर गुजरात का एक भारतीय समुदाय है। वे देवी मंदिरों के पुजारी के रूप में जाने जाते हैं और पूजा के दौरान 'रम्मत' नामक नृत्य रूप प्रस्तुत करते हैं। चारणों द्वारा उनका बहुत सम्मान किया जाता है और वह उन्हें संरक्षण प्रदान करते हैं। [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

रावलों का 12वीं शताब्दी के आसपास ब्राह्मणों से परिवर्तित होना माना जाता है। [4]

पूर्व समय में, रावल लोग चारणों के गांव-गांव घूमकर रात्रिकालीन कार्यक्रम प्रस्तुत करते थे। [6] [7]

रावल की रम्मत संपादित करें

रावल अपने रम्मत नामक प्रदर्शनों के लिए जाने जाते हैं, जो प्रकृति में भक्तिपूर्ण हैं जो उनकी संरक्षक देवी को समर्पित होते हैं। यह प्रदर्शन देवी की प्रार्थना के साथ शुरू होता है जिसके बाद प्रदर्शन क्षेत्र को तलवार से चिह्नित किया जाता है। यह रम्मत परंपरा आधुनिक समय में 'लगभग विलुप्त' मानी जाती है। [4]

राजस्थान की लोक नाट्य परम्पराओं के अध्ययन में महेंद्र भानावत, रम्मत की उत्पत्ति के बारे में बताते हैं: [8]

"राजस्थान के रावल, जो अपने विशिष्ट संरक्षकों (चारण यजमानों) से उपहार (विरत) के लिए विभिन्न रूप(स्वांग) धारण करके विभिन्न प्रकार के मनोरंजक प्रदर्शन करते हैं-जिन्हें रम्मत कहते हैं। मुझे बताया गया था कि पुराने समय में रावल, नवरात्रों में देवी का रूप धारण करके देवी की चरजायेँ और भक्ति गीत गाते थे, साथ में मृदंग, ताल, रवज आदि वाघयंत्रों का प्रयोग करते हुए। समय बीतने के साथ, उन्होंने चारणों के सामने खेड़ा प्रदर्शन भी शुरू कर दिया और अलग-अलग प्रतिरूपण (स्वांग) प्रस्तुत किए। एक खेड़ा प्रदर्शन के लिए, एक लड़का देवी की तरह तैयार होगा और दूसरा लड़का अपनी महिला की वेशभूषा में रात भर धार्मिक गीत, नृत्य और ढोल के साथ विभिन्न चरजायेँ पेश करेगा। इन भक्ति प्रदर्शनों को रम्मत के रूप में जाना जाने लगा।” [8]

रावल उन सम्मानित जातियों में से एक हैं जो चारणों के लिए वंशावली लेखन व सरंक्षण का कार्य करते हैं। [4] [9]

आधुनिक व्यवसाय संपादित करें

वर्तमान में, रावल मुख्य रूप से खेती और मोटे सूती कपड़े और टेप की बुनाई के कार्यों में लगे हुए हैं। [6]

1961 की जनगणना के अनुसार राजस्थान में रावल की जनसंख्या लगभग 4500 थी। [6]
