राजेन्द्र चोल द्वितीय अपने बड़े भ्राता राजाधिराज चोल के उत्तराधिकारी[3] थे। इनको कोप्पम के युद्ध में अपने भ्राता के संग याद किया जाता है, जहां इन्होंने पश्चिमी चालुक्य वंश के राजा सोमेश्वर १ का पासा प[अलट दिया था।[4]
