आलिया भट्ट का जन्म 15 मार्च 1993[8][9] को भट्ट परिवार में भारतीय फिल्म निर्देशक महेश भट्ट और अभिनेत्री सोनी रज़दान में हुआ था। उसके पिता गुजराती वंश के हैं [10][11] और उसकी माँ कश्मीरी पंडित और ब्रिटिश जर्मन वंश की है।[12][13][14][15] वह ब्रिटिश नागरिकता रखती है। उसकी एक बड़ी बहन, शाहीन,[16] और दो आधे भाई-बहन, पूजा और राहुल भट्ट हैं। अभिनेता इमरान हाशमी और निर्देशक मोहित सूरी उनके पैतृक चचेरे भाई हैं, जबकि निर्माता मुकेश भट्ट उनके चाचा हैं।[17] भट्ट को जामनाबाई नरसी स्कूल में शिक्षित किया गया था, लेकिन अभिनय में अपना करियर बनाने के लिए 12 वें से बाहर हो गया।[18][19][20]
