आदरणीय बिल जी, मैंने विज्ञान संचार, विज्ञान कथा एवं हिन्दी बाल साहित्य के लेखों में अपने कुछ ऐसे लेखों के बाहरी लिंक लगाए थे, जो प्रतिष्ठित समाचार पत्र/पत्रिकाओं में प्रकाशित हो चुके हैं और मेरे विभिन्न ब्लॉगस में भी प्रकाशित हैं। किन्तु उन लिंक्स को हटा दिया गया है। यह देखकर मैं हतप्रभ हूं। जबकि उपरोक्त लेखों में कई प्रचारात्मक और विषय से इतर लिंक्स पहले से लगे हुए हैं। क्या आप या विकिपीडिया समूह यह नहीं चाहता कि यहां पर वे लोग भी सक्रिय हों, जो विभिन्न विषयों के जानकार तो हैं, किन्तु विकि पर सक्रिय नहीं हैं। अगर ऐसा नहीं है, तो फिर इस कार्यवाही की क्या वजह है?
- जकीर अली जी, विकिपीडिया पर केवल प्रतिष्ठित व विश्वसनीय स्रोतों के ही लिंक दिएँ जा सकते हैं, जिनकी व्यापक समीक्षा हो चुकि है। आप जिस वेबसाइट के लिंक दें रहें हैं वह इन मानकों पर खरी नहीं उतरती। ब्लॉग के तो लिंक यहाँ कभी भी नहीं दिएँ जाते क्योंकि ब्लॉग आत्म-प्रकाशित होते हैं जिनकी विश्वसनीय की कोई गारंटी नहीं होती। आप किसी सरकारी वेबसाइट, समाचारपत्र के एडिटोरियल के लिंक, प्रतिष्ठित वैज्ञानिक वेबसाइट जैसे नासा, इसरो, आई॰ई॰ई॰ई॰, बायलोजी ऑन्लाइन, एमआईटी, आदि के साथ अन्य ज्ञानकोष जैसे ब्रिटैनिका के लिंक दे सकते हैं। अगर आपको लगता है कि किसी लेख में प्रचारात्मक लिंक या विषय है तो अवश्य ही उसे हटाएँ ऐसा करके आप विकिपीडिया की सहायता ही करेंगे। आपका यहाँ हार्दिक स्वागत है।<>< बिल विलियम कॉम्पटनवार्ता 16:31, 21 जुलाई 2012 (UTC)

- यह बात पूरी तरह से असत्य है। उदाहरण स्वरूप विज्ञान कथा साहित्य पेज को देखें, जोकि 'विज्ञान कथा साहित्य' का पृष्ठ है। इस पेज पर 10 वाह्य लिंक हैं, जिनमें से 7 ब्लॉग के ही हैं। इनमें से पहले दो लिंक एक वेबसाइट 'कल्किआन हिन्दी' के हैं। कल्किआन हिन्दी की एक सामान्य वेबसाइट है, जबकि उसके होमपेज का लिंक पहले नम्बर पर स्थापित है और उसके परिचय में लिखा हुआ है- 'स्वप्निल भारतीय द्वारा संस्थापित विश्व की प्रथम हिंदी भाषीय विज्ञान, तकनीक तथा विज्ञान कथा की साईट' क्या यह विज्ञापन नहीं है। इससे यह साफ झलक रहा है कि यह पेज कल्किआन वेबसाइट के मालिक ने बनाया है और वही इस पेज का संचालक है। शायद इसीलिए उसका विज्ञापन तो वाह्य लिंक के रूप में लगा हुआ है, लेकिन किसी दैनिक समाचार पत्र में रविवारीय कवर स्टोरी के रूप में प्रकाशित लेख का लिंक वहां नहीं लग सकता। इसके अलावा पेज में दिये गये अन्य ब्लॉग सम्बंधी लिंक सामान्य ब्लॉगों में हैं, जो न तो नियमित रूप से लिखे जाते हैं और न ही उनकी ढ़ग की अलेक्सा रैंक ही है। इसके बावजूद उनके लिंक पेज पर लगे हुए हैं। ऐसे में मेरे ब्लॉग के लिंक क्यों दुराग्रहपूर्ण तरीके से हटाए गये। जबकि वे लिंक उन लेखों के थे, जो हिन्दी के प्रतिष्ठित समाचार पत्रों में प्रकाशित हुए हैं और उनमें से ज्यादातर प्रतिष्ठित समाचार पत्र की रविवारीय पत्रिका की कवर स्टोरी के रूप में हैं।
- साथ ही मैं यहां पर बताना चाहूंगा कि ये सभी लिंक उस ब्लॉग के हैं, जो पूरे विश्व में हिन्दी के सर्वाधिक पढे जाने वाले ब्लॉग में शामिल है तथा नियमित रूप पर प्रकाशित होता है और जिसकी एलेक्सा रैंक अन्य सभी लिंकित ब्लॉगों से कहीं ज्यादा है। यहां पर मैं बताना चाहूंगा कि किसी समाचार पत्र में वे ही लेख प्रकाशित होते हैं, जो प्रामाणिक होते हैं और विषय की दृष्टि से महत्वपूर्ण होते हैं। फिर ऐसे लेखों के लिंक हटादेना तथा अन्य अविश्वसनीय ब्लॉगों के लिंकों को पेज पर जगह देना विकिपीडिया की विश्वसनीयता को स्पष्ट रूप से संदेह के घेरे में लाता है।

- जकीर अली जी, मैने आप से साफ़ शब्दों में कहा तो है कि अगर आप किसी लेख में प्रचारात्मक सामग्री देखें तो तुरंत उसे उठा दें। इसमें आपके द्वारा विज्ञान कथा साहित्य लेख का उदहारण देना कहाँ तक ठीक बैठता है? मैने लेख से प्रचारात्मक लिंक हटा दिएँ हैं, ऐसा आप भी कर सकते थे, बजाय मुझे लेख की हालत दिखाने के। आप इसे ही छोड़े, हिन्दी विकिपीडिया पर कई लेख आपको ऐसे मिल जाएँगे तो क्या इसका मतलब यह है कि मैं अकेला सारे लेखों की गश्त करता हूँ या ऐसा मुझे करना चाहिए। नहीं, यह हर संपादक का दायित्व है कि वह ऐसे लेखों की सफ़ाई करें। मेरे पास कोई ब्रह्मदृष्टि तो है नहीं कि सारे लेखों पर हो रहा कार्य मुझे दिखता रहता है। दूसरा, रही बात आपकी वेबसाइट की तो इसमें मैं बस इतना कहता चाहूँगा कि केवल किसी के कह देने से वेबसाइट या ब्लॉग विश्वसनीय नहीं बन जाते उसके लिए प्रमाण चाहिए होते हैं, धन्यवाद।<>< बिल विलियम कॉम्पटनवार्ता 02:40, 23 जुलाई 2012 (UTC)

- Could you please have a look at the discussion and the changes made by the author to the article? Since the article in its current form contains very little amount of content bearing substantial similarity to the original article from which it was originally copied, I doubt if the current version can be said to be a copyright violation (or a derivative work). If the current version is ok, we could make do with revdeling the old version I think. Please have a look at the article regarding this. Comments in the discussion would be appreciated. आपकी बात: सर्वप्रथम, आपको अगर इस बात का ज्ञान न हो तो बता दूँ कि दुनिया में स्क्रीन रीडर जैसी भी कुछ चीज होती है, जिसके द्वारा नेत्रहीन व्यक्ति लेख पढ़ता है।
- मेरा उत्तर: इसके उत्तर में मैं आपको यह बताना चाहता हूँ कि विरला ही कोई नेत्रहीन भारत में होगा जिसके पास आप जिन चीज़ों का बखान कर रहे है होंगी। और हिन्दी विकि के अधिकांश पाठक भारत में ही हैं। इसलिए आपका यह तर्क कहीं से सही नहीं है। वैसे भी स्क्रीन रीडर जैसा की नाम से पता चलता है रीड करके नेत्रहीन व्यक्ति को सुनाता है और वह किसी भी प्रकार की तालिका पढ़ सकता है।
आपकी बात: दूसरा, जिसे आप अंग्रेज़ी विकिपीडिया की नकल बता रहें हैं उसे मैं पिछले दो वर्ष से इस्तेमाल करता आ रहा हूँ और इस प्रकार की सूची का इस्तेमाल करने के निर्णय में मैं भी शामिल था, तो यह नकल तो कही से हुई ही नहीं।
- मेरा उत्तर: चलिए मान भी लिया कि आपकी नीयत सही थी लेकिन विकिपीडिया के सभी संस्करणों पर लाखों की संख्या में ऐसी टेबलें हैं जो पूरे कम्प्यूटर स्क्रीन के आरपार फैली हुई हैं। उन टेबलों के सन्दर्भ में क्या यह बात लागू नहीं होती? ऐसी लाखों टेबलों को कोई नेत्रहीन स्क्रीन रीडर की सहायता से कैसे पढ़ता होगा?
आपकी बात: तीसरा, विकिपीडिया का मूल उद्देश्य हर किसी तक ज्ञान का प्रसार करना है और इसमें वे व्यक्ति भी आते हैं जो देख नहीं सकते। मेरी और आपकी सूची में यह अंतर है कि आपकी सूची में स्क्रीन रीडर पदक तालिका को ठीक से पढ़ ही नहीं सकता जबकि मेरी सूची बनाई ही स्क्रीन रीडर की सहूलियत के लिए है। आप जो सूची लगा रहें हैं वो कहा से पूर्ण है?
- मेरा उत्तर: मेरी समझ में यह नहीं आ रहा है कि किस प्रकार मेरी बनाई गई तालिका विकिपीडिया के मूल उद्देश्य की पूर्ती के विरोध में है। यह आप कैसे कह सकते हैं कि मेरी बनाई तालिका को स्क्रीनरीडर ठीक से नहीं पढ़ सकता? तो यह स्क्रीनरीडर उन हज़ारों टेबलों को कैसे पढ़ता है जो बहुत से विकिपीडिया संस्करणों पर बनी हुई हैं और कम्प्यूटर स्क्रीन के आरपार फैली हुई हैं? अंग्रेज़ी विकि पर तो ऐसी टेबलों की संख्या हज़ारों में है जो स्क्रीन की १००% की सीमा से भी अधिक हैं। ऐसी टेबले कैसे पढ़ी जाती हैं? और मेरी टेबल इस प्रकार पूर्ण है कि एक तो उसमें यह पता चलता है कि अबतक कितने देश पदक जीत चुके हैं और दूसरा मेरी टेबल के सभी कॉलम सॉर्ट किए जा सकते हैं। हो सकता है कि किसी प्रयोक्ता को रजत पदक वाला कॉलम सॉर्ट करके देखना हो या किसी को आईओसी कोड अनुसार तालिका सॉर्ट करके देखनी हो। और वैसे भी आपकी और मेरी बनाई टेबल में केवल एक कॉलम का अन्तर है और मेरी समझ में यह नहीं आया कि एक कॉलम अधिक डालने से इतना बबाल क्यों मच गया है?
आपकी बात: इलसिए या तो आप इसे बदल दें नहीं तो मैं बदल दूँगा, धन्यवाद।

Hello Bill, I'm kinda new here, I've had a month of experience on Wikipedia and I learn new things everyday. I've seen how they do username changes on the English wiki but I noticed that it stated that the change will only take effect in the English Wikipedia, more than the English wiki I would like to have my name changed here on the Hindi wiki. I don't want to be known as 'Pearz25' in the community here or any other wiki community for various reasons, one of them is quite obvious because it it such an undesirable name. Hello Bill, There are infoboxes that you have created, and only the output is translated, please translate the input, I've looked into other wikis and it is causing problems because they have followed our example, this is the Hindi Wikipedia and anything that can be possibly Hindi should be. - Hi Farah, by "input" I suppose you are referring variable names of infobox templates? And, I couldn't agree more that at Hindi Wikipedia these things should be in Hindi only but there are other factors you have to consider. First, many of our best articles are created by different organisations like Google (e.g. एंजेलिना जोली), translatorswithoutborders.org (e.g. हेपाटाइटिस सी), etc; they translate articles from English Wikipedia and in this procedure they don't translate templates (they just copy them). There are numerous articles like this, so I can only translate the output fields. Any alteration with input variables [of a template] will not reflect in these articles. Second, in Hindi many words have different spellings so creating a template completely in Hindi is a cumbersome task. Third, there are a very few active users on Hindi Wikipedia, and hardly one or two decent articles are created in course of a day. If we'll emphasize in creating templates especially in Hindi then it will lead to waste of time. This time can be utilized in creating more articles. - Farah, I'm not denying that it's not possible and if you have time and eagerness then please do it, but I have so many other important things to take care of. I'll do all in my capacity to help you in it, but I don't know how you will change usage of infoboxes from so many pages, e.g. {{Infobox film}} is used in loads of articles, now if I change it from
- {{Infobox film | name=द हंगर गेम्स | country=अमेरिका }}
- to
- {{Infobox film | नाम=द हंगर गेम्स | देश=अमेरिका}}
- then it will cause omission of these two (name and country) fields in output from all the pages.
- It's a very mooting point for all of us that whether to go for International (these are not "foreign" numerals, instead they developed from Indian number system) or Devanagarai numbers. All past discussions/proposals regarding this matter hadn't reached to any consensus. - I think Kashmiri Wikipedia has no default editor, like here we have विकिपीडिया:नारायम. So, where do you need Hindu-Arabic system? If you are thinking to change/translate the interface then you have to do it at translatewiki.net. - I'm assuming that you want to change the default numerals on ks.wp from ١... to 1...
- I should make it clear that changing the numerals in use on a wiki is a three-part process, with each part needing community consensus for the change, without which the use of numerals on the wiki will be fractured into two or more systems (like here at hi.wp some people prefer 123, while others prefer १२३). So any change of numerals on the wiki should be accompanied by broad community consensus.
- The first part is filing a bugzilla request for setting $wgTranslateNumerals to an appropriate value for the change. (Example: see [1])
- This would change all numbers on ks.wp (such as the numbers in special pages, numbers in numbered lists) etc. which are generated automatically by the mediawiki software would change.
- The second step would be to change any numerals that appear in interface texts at translatewiki.net, since any numerals put in explicitly in the interface messages at translatewiki would not change even on the successfull completion of the bug request.
- The third step would be changing the numerals used by the editors in the wikitext. This would have to be done manually or by bots.
- Please note that if community consensus does not exist for the change, even following these three steps may not ensure a consistent numeral system usage as editors may continue to use the older numerals system.

- I think Kashmiri Wikipedia has no default editor, like here we have विकिपीडिया:नारायम. So, where do you need Hindu-Arabic system? If you are thinking to change/translate the interface then you have to do it at translatewiki.net. - the same thing happens on the Gujarati wikipedia, their templates are pure Gujarati and it causes problems when people don't translate the template, but the users are quick to fix it up, and their community is smaller than ours, so I think its possible and should be done, and about the numerals as well, the Devanagari has it's own number system so why do we use a foreign one?, I've noticed that the editors here use the Nagari numbers anyway. --फ़ाराह् देसाईं खानवार्ता 19:21, 3 अक्टूबर 2012 (UTC)

Hi Bill, 71.191.71.146 is clearly the same as Smeatteams. Can he/she be investigated for sock-puppetry and banned. Their activities are pretty unbelievable. He's renamed the सीज़ियम article again based on someone's personal Marathi-language webpage. Is there a way to mass rollback his changes as well? - Hello Hunnjazal, yes we can request for an investigation, but I don't think problem is that severe. We can easily block him/her if he/she again do any disruption. Check-user requests are worthy only for such cases when more than two IPs/users get involved in similar activities. I've renamed AfD Top and AfD bottom as {{हहेच शुरू}} and {{हहेच अंत}}.
Also, I see that the commented out text included in the former is out of place. It recommends making discussion pages according to en-wp's format. However, the current system on hi-wp doesn't have that. And, the way twinkle is configured now, if an article had an afd and was kept and is nominated again, twinkle will just add the nomination to the bottom of the same discussion page.
