Most of the images are taken from this website (for Hindi books, English novels can be checked on English Wikipedia like Harry Potter), and those which have no source information are eligible for deletion—in which images are tagged with {{nsd}}, uploader is notified, and after one week they can be deleted without giving any further warning/message. — Bill william compton^Talk 21:41, 12 अक्टूबर 2011 (UTC)

Files without a license

Hi! All or most of these files विशेष:UncategorizedFiles do not have a license but is protected so I can't edit them. I wanted to add a "no license" tag/category. Mass Bot import of templates

User:RajeshBot का प्रयोग कर के 1500 से अधिक साँचे बिना समुदाय से बातचीत किये और बिना स्रोत url दिये अंग्रेज़ी विकिपीडिया से कॉपी पेस्ट किये गए हैं(देखें Special:Contributions/RajeshBot)। यह साँचे सभी अंग्रेज़ी नाम के हैं। इन साँचों को ऐसे कॉपी करने से इन सब के लाइसेंस गलत होते हैं(Attribution is not in place)। साथ ही मेरे विचार में इन साँचों की यहाँ कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। अतः अनुरोध है कि इन साँचों को जल्द-से-जल्द हटाया जाए। मैं ne विकिपीडिया पर इस बॉट के संचालक को इस वार्ता की कड़ी प्रदान कर रहा हूँ ताकि वे ऐसा करने का अपने कारण यहाँ रख पायें। साथ ही अनुरोध है कि विकिपीडिया:प्रबंधक सूचनापट का सुरक्षा स्तर घटाकर autoconfirmed कर दें ताकि प्रबंधक वर्ग से सम्बन्धित वार्ता इस पृष्ठ पर हो सके। जहाँ तक मेरी जानकारी है, यह पृष्ठ प्रबंधकों को किसी बात से अवगत कराने के लिये है, अतः सभी सदस्यों को इसे संपादित कर इसमें विषय जोड़ने की अनुमति होनी चाहिए। धन्यवाद--सिद्धार्थ घई (वार्ता) 21:43, 2 नवम्बर 2011 (UTC)

@Sid, It is controversial that Copy paste from one wiki to another is copyvio.However it depend on Community whether they want for such kind of situation.In case of en wiki and hi wiki there is no general consensus over this.

@Rajeshpandey, Siddharath just said that such a huge automated addition should be done after getting community consensus.if Community has no objection then you can just do your task.However don't bother i shall delete these all templates if required. It still depend on local community however Importing will not disturb such Policy as it show original user name in History but directly copy & paste violate this policy that's why i advised rajesh to use importing those pages rather than copy paste directly through bot.Still I am confused for applying this policy for Hindi wiki it will be better if bill can also give his opinion--Mayur ^{(talk•Email)} 18:18, 3 नवम्बर 2011 (UTC)

There are few things I'd like to clarify regarding the license policy of Wikipedia: all the text (including under namespace like template, category, etc) is released under CCA-SA 3.0, which requires attribution—even if it is copied or transferred from Sister Wikimedia Project (the Wiki jargon of the moment is "terms of use"). If strictly following CC licensing and United States Copyright Law, CC licenses require users to attribute the original creator(s) of a work, unless the creator has waived that requirement or asked that his/her name be removed from an adaptation or collection. So, IMHO transferring templates like this require attribution to original creator(s), and WMF has suggested a few handy ways for this, like using {{interwiki copy}} template. And, Mayur there can't be any possible "general consensus" for this, because it'd violate CC policy of Wikimedia. Yes, need of attribution may not be required for template if it contains entirely different content (or translated) because rest is just Wiki markup coding.

Now about the usability of these bulk templates on Hindi Wikipedia. As Sid said above, these templates are mostly used in machine translated articles (or in articles of Google Project), a usual procedure in which people just—without giving adequate attention—copy whole text from English Wikipedia articles, and leave many red-links (like categories, templates, interwikis, etc); but these red-links certainly don't need copy/paste method, so in simple words "we don't need them here". Rajesh, your rationale that "All of these templates had at least two links from the articles" is also not endurable, e.g. {{Tourism}} has only one link which is on ट्रैवल एजेंसी—a Google translated article. Mayur, "it [doesn't] show original user name in History" [sic] (does it?). Thanks Sid, Mayur and everyone for taking it positively. Originally the intention was to save users from the hectic work of copying the wiki jargon, styles and formatting that exist in templates. A normal user might get frustrated by a red link in an article and there are thousands of such wanted templates that are available in enwiki. Among those templates, some are translated, some are used as-it-is like the php-programs which come with the mediawiki software(obviously lot of folks worked day and night for it, and we should give credits to them), and we have become rich by adopting those templates. Its like the languages, the more words we take in a language, the more richer we become example Glass to Paper, shirt and pant, and a lot many. Templates are midway between the mediawiki software and the general text. Any user can create a template and put a programming logic inside it. The programmers use it as the building blocks and try to reuse it. At most places people write ifelse braces left and braces right, parameters and stuffs that a new user may not understand while an advanced user understands it(at most cases). Its a mystery for another user : what exists inside a template, untill he does not test the template himself or read the template documentations very carefeully. We can work on the shortcomings in the Wanted-Templates. At the end all the effort is for the betterment of the wiki. If these templates are really harmful may be we should delete them. May be mass copying is not so good, because it might be dreadful at some instances. May be we feel insecure about the bots. No doubt human editors are better than bots and bots are meant to serve humans. May be we should delete the poor articles with those templates. The community can flag the articles that are poor in quality, as they are being done everyday as in the articles in Category:Delete. All the possibilities below are possible. Thanks to the mediawiki software, all the edits can be reverted, deleted or edited. The solution to the the red links of the templates (that have been staying there for long) in the articles might be : 1) by deleting the article 2) deleting the template link 3) creating the template properly by fixing all the links. Just clarifying once again, Rajesh. Copying templates using bots is not ok if you don't provide the source attribution, because that violates the WMF terms of use and implies copyright violation. Source attribution is a must, which is missing in the bot transfer of templates.

If this attribution had been present, then it would have been up to the community to decide whether or not to keep these templates. But, without the attribution, we are (legally) bound by the Terms of Use to delete these templates(We don't have a choice in this).

So next time you wish to import ,either use Special:Import; or if you do use a bot; get it to at least add a summary like: "copy from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/template:xyz&oldid=1234567890". Note that a permanent link to the page is required, not a simple page link, since that can change. Hope this clears the problem with these imports.--सिद्धार्थ घई (वार्ता) 21:39, 5 नवम्बर 2011 (UTC)

Useless protection of pages

Mayur, I'm concerned that many pages are edit protected for no use. This is a misuse of page-protection privilege, like why on this earth प्रवेशद्वार:तमिल नाडु/चयनित जीवनी is edit protected if it never had any history of persistent vandalism. These type of pages hinder me from doing my work, like I needed to replace the redundant image in this page with one on Commons after deleting चित्र:CVRaman.jpg but I couldn't do that because page is edit protected even for auto-confirmed users. Agreed. My point is that normally it would be a good idea to wait 2 weeks before files are deleted because it gives uploader a chance to add a valid license. However, there is no reason to wait the usual 2 weeks with this user because the user can not add a license as long as he is blocked. Delete/undelete

Hi! I just noticed that my bot can delete files but it can't undelete. So if I make a mistake I can't fix it. Any ideas? For creation of infobox the simple procedure is-

1. First of all search the same info box in English or some other wiki.Like in your case you should first of all copy and paste Template:Infobox_video_game & Template:Infobox_video_game/doc file from en Wiki.Just mention link from where you copied it in edit summary.
2. After replace en words with hindi word both in Template:Infobox_video_game & Template:Infobox_video_game/doc.
3. after that Ifobox will be ready

Regarding Infoboxes

Hi again, I need help regarding protection of templates. Do you have admin rights to do so? There are so many templates for the same purpose and I would appreciate help from you to make one single template discarding the others to maintain unity in all articles related to that genre. For example have a look at these two articles.

• देसी बॉयज
• नमस्ते लंदन (२००७ चलचित्र)

Both have two different infoboxes. I noticed this after looking at the second articles. Both infoboxes were there before my jump in Hindi wiki. I think the one on Desi Boyz is default one since its modified from the one present on English wiki where as the one on Namaste London is created by a user.

See what you can do in this case so that I can atleast make sure which one to use. If you delete any of the one then make a redirect of that to the correct one since many articles are those too.

Few quarries and other stuff

Hi Mayur, I've few proposals and queries. First, replace File:Fairytale bookmark gold.png with File:Cscr-featured.svg as a symbol of featured content on Hindi Wikipedia, because the proposed one gives sense of seriousness and assiduousness. Second, decide a single title for selected content, meaning either use निर्वाचित लेख or प्रमुख लेख to remove confusion—maintaining stability. Third, restart the whole project of good articles (श्रेष्ठ लेख) on Hindi Wikipedia; this restarting of project would also include delisting of all present good articles because people tag their own creation with GA template without any formal nomination procedure. Fourth, I need a permission to write the विकिपीडिया:श्रेष्ठ लेख मापदंड सम्पादन, so that users may know about the criteria of good article. Fifth, I need to restart a selection of featured pictures also, because many present featured pictures on Hindi Wikipedia are not fit for the so-called status. • Regarding the star for FA and FL status, I think that we should have something different from en(not entirely different; but not the same copied either). Maybe someone could make a good SVG for that? I'm quite new to those, so it'd take me a lot of time(months) before I can come up with something good.
• I haven't seen the use of प्रमुख लेख anywhere(or maybe I've forgotten). Could someone clarify where this is in use? I favor the use of निर्वाचित over प्रमुख btw.
• I'm not really in favour of delisting all articles just like that. I think we can get them cleaned up while creating new policies for GAs(just like the new upload page for images came up while we were clearing up images) :) However, you're free to write up a criteria
• As for the featured pictures, I don't think we should select them from hi at all(or if we do, we move them to commons since fair-use images cant be featured). And I'm seriously hoping to move all free images to commons in the forseeable future; so here are some ideas for an FPC:

• It should be Own Work of a wikimedian(any registered user on any WMF wiki). Works from flickr or pd-old images don't count.
• It should be under a free license on commons
• It should actually be in use on hi-wp in a non-stub
• It would be best to avoid giving FPs from commons FP status here. It would be better to pick a non-FP on commons, get it FPed here, and then try to FP it on commons. This way, both projects improve without us doing only copying.

Regarding GA's, as SIddhartha said about clean up, we can only clean up those who deserve a clean up at all. As you can see there are more than 6000 pages with that template and category. I meant cleaning up the GA category of those articles which don't deserve to be GAs, not cleaning up the articles themselves only for the sake of justifying the category's existence. In other terms, I meant: Take a look at all/almost all 6000 articles in the category and remove any that do not deserve the tag. And even though it might seem a bit optimistic, I sincerely believe that its doable.(Of course we should remember that we don't have a deadline anyways :) ).

As for the new GA symbol, I greatly appreciate the work you have done but I just don't see it fit to have a symbol based on the tricolor as the symbol for GAs, since wikipedia is not for Indian articles only, and we should not limit the symbolism to any particular country. I'd therefore like to request you to make two symbols; one for GAs, and one for FAs(both neutral), since I really like the icon you created. I hope you won't take this the wrong way. 1. You can make a draft for Good and Featured content both together on the same page.We shall also give some suggestions after that you may declare it as final.
2. For Featured content icon i agree with sid that we should have some different than english wiki i have suggested some plz choose if you have a better image than plz suggest it.
3. I shall decategorise all good articles as they were categorised by my bot so there is no sense to keep them.I just categorised them as per their size not by quality.We should fill this category by using AWB.
4. We all you, sid, ashu and me can work on selection of new good articles.
5. I shall make a abuse filter that will ban addtion of good article templates and category but I think we should choose one, two or three person who should have this permission otherwise any admin, sr user can also do this without community approval.The process should be as-

I agree with you Mayur, the globe icon is best since the first one look more like the GA icon of Eng Wiki. I'm currently working on भारतीय वायुसेना to make it broad and perfect to follow the Good Article conditions. @Sid:Agree, I wasn't even in favor of direct copying from English Wikipedia. I like the procedure of Deutsch Wikipedia (German). They use a symbol like this and declare the version and date when an article was promoted to featured (or worth reading for de.wiki) status.

Haven't you noticed main page of Hindi Wikipedia?

By delisting, I meant that we would review them for our new criteria.

Choosing images from Hindi Wikipedia is not even an option, featured picture candidate on any Wikipedia project should be present on Commons.

• Actually they count, this is a common procedure on all Wikipedia projects that they promote free images available on other repositories like flickr, etc. If we don't include PD-Old then we'll never have historical images as featured ones.
• Agree
• This is a main criteria: "Image should have encyclopedic value".
• It depends upon the project's environment. Many FP of Commons or English Wikipedia don't even have respective articles on Hindi Wikipedia—fails EV criteria". I'm not in favor of including it as criteria, but we'll definitely promote uniqueness.

@Mayur: Okay, I'll start writing the criteria under my userspace.

Globe-star combination is fine.

Here, I'm suggesting a formal nomination procedure similar to other Wikipedia projects (en, fr, de):

• User creates/expands article.
• He/she nominates the article, which goes on special page.
• Any autoconfirmed (special requirement, add by me) user can review the article against GAC (good article criteria).
• The review procedure will be carried out on the talk page of the article.
• Only reviewer will have authority to pass/promote the article for GA status.

Rather than committee we can use GA-bot and FA-bot of English Wikipedia to add the template. But as I said above, only reviewers will have authority to pass the article, and then they can ask bot to tag the article.

@Ashliveslove: राम प्रसाद 'बिस्मिल' article is too far from GA status. • I agree that we need to separate आधार(stubs), मध्यम लेख(normal), निर्वाचित लेख(featured) and GAs(उत्तम लेख/श्रेष्ठ लेख, whichever seems better).
• We do need a GA criteria. And I'd rather prefer different pages for an FA criteria and GA criteria.
• I'm fine with the wiki-globe and star logo for FAs. And I like चित्र:Indian_good_article.png by Ashu for tagging GAs.
• As for उत्तम लेख category, after going through it a bit; I think delisting is better than transferring to मध्यम लेख, since I found most of them without a single reference. And I don't think classifying an unreferenced article as "मध्यम" would be right. And since they were bot-tagged by their size, I don't think we can/should count them as "मध्यम" without manual checks anyways.
• प्रमुख vs निर्वाचित: I'd prefer निर्वाचित even on the main page, since प्रमुख doesn't convey the same meaning.

Images

• OK, I get the point about pd-olds being included. I'm not really enthusiastic about promoting images from flickr but I have no qualms if they're under free licenses and satisfy other conditions.

I wished for two different pages for FA and GA standards because:

• It helps keep two separate standards
• Both can be maintained without interference from the other standard
• Getting community consensus step-by-step should be easier than in one go
• We could easily use विकिपीडिया:आकलन as the summary page while maintaining the actual standards at different pages
• Different pages mean different page histories so we can easily see which standards get revised when
• Different pages means different people can work on the criteria without hinderance in the initial development
• We dont know how much the criteria page could expand in the future, so keeping them separate from the start will save us the trouble of a page split in the future

When you're at making the filters for FA and GA template addition, could you also add one for the dvd category, and something to prevent the following text from being added:

Another Hell

This page currently guides people to use arabic numerals. I thought consensus was either to the contrary(to use international numerals) or there was no consensus at all. TW Troubles?

@Ashliveslove, Now it is clear that these all sudden problems is due to intersection of our twinkle and various other scripts with webfont script. Check the contributions of the user सदस्य:Dr. ashok shukla. He has created many articles regarding unremarkable person, other blog related articles with no references except that certain blog. Ashu, check few things with the articles before nominating them for deletion: subject of the article is notable enough, subject has been covered widely in the independent reliable sources, references are direct, and there's no defamation in biographical articles. If articles created by this user don't follow these mandatory elements then you should nominate them for deletion and give subsequent warnings to user on his talk page— Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4, and if he doesn't stop after level 4 then he would be blocked from editing on Hindi Wikipedia with no further investigation and notifications. Also, report him only at the administrator notice board.

Secondly, blog is considered reliable source of reference only in the case if it is authorized by the subject himself/herself; meaning, if person A has article on Wikipedia which already have [as said above] reliable and independent sources and if he/she runs a blog which contains personal information about him/her, like his/her marital status, age, sexual orientation, religion, education, occupation, and other personal figures and facts, then this blog can be used, in any other case blogs are not acceptable.<><  Bill william compton^Talk 19:19, 27 दिसम्बर 2011 (UTC)

I agree with you bill, at first I was ignorant about him but then he started creating all sorts of articles regarding his blogs and even about the people writing those blogs. This include single lined biographical articles without any references about unremarkable persons. I've given him warnings too but he simply clears his talk page. Blogs with original research is not a reliable source and you can see how his blogs are written. All are from blogspot.com. He even created a whole template about such articles on wiki. Non licensed images

Please note that whenever you delete non licensed images, make sure that they're not being used. If they are, then please either replace them with equivalents from commons, or unlink them (Twinkle unlinking doesn't work half the time, you'll have to do it manually).

हिन्दी विकि के लिये अलग से एक एण्ड्रायड एप्लिकेशन की आवश्यकता है। एण्ड्रायड फोन आज के समय में भारत के गांव-गांव पहुंच चुके हैं। एण्ड्रायड गूगल हिन्दी इनपुट भी काफी अच्छा है। मुझे विश्वास है कि इस कदम से लाखों लोग हिन्दी विकि से जुड़ सकेंगे। धन्यवाद। --Manojkhurana (वार्ता) 12:17, 21 अगस्त 2013 (UTC)
